The start
Basil Schlegel studied Film and Television in Germany and graduated in Business and Management of Entertainment from UCLA Los Angeles, California.After stints as producer and editor for German television he moved to New York City to work as an editor and post-production supervisor on ads for clients including Coca Cola and on music videos for artists such as The B52s, Randy Crawford and Mariah Carey.
Mini-movies
Following his return to Germany, Schlegel produced and direted through his own production outlet Torpedo in Frankfurt. He designed the look for several television shows, helmed music videos for artists like Jam & Spoon and Das Modul, and documentaries including ‘Was heist hier pervers?’ (About the HIV epidemic) for television networks ZDF and ARD.
International
Schlegel’s first ad campaign for Journal Frankfurt got him short-listed at the Art Directors Club of Germany, Epica France, The New York Festivals, and won him top honors at The London International Advertising Awards.
By 2000, he helmed the launch for the Guggenheim Bilbao Museum  as well as spots for the British Museum of Photography. In 2000 he also directed and executive produced the independent US feature Night All Day.

To date Basil Schlegel has directed 250 television ads and media projects in over twenty-five countries worldwide for clients including Sony, Visa, and Coca Cola.
